Alison Penfold

Company Secretary & Financial Controller

Year joined: 2001

Highlights of the role:

Alison believes that the best thing about being in Finance is that you get involved in all aspects of the Company and have the opportunity to make a difference.   Alison really enjoys the tax aspect of her role even though it involves looking through pages and pages of legislation!  Being Company Secretary also means she has the opportunity to contribute at Board level.

What makes McMullen’s the company of choice:

Alison was once told that the aim in life is “to work with nice people, for nice people” and feels that this is the case at McMullen’s. She enjoys working for a family company that is of sufficient size that there is always something interesting going on, but not so large that you do not feel important. Working in hospitality is also great fun.

Life prior to McMullen’s:

Alison is a local lass having lived in Hertfordshire all her life. Her career in accountancy began straight after leaving school when she joined MacIntyre Hudson, an accountancy firm based in North London, where she qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant. During her time at this firm, she gained experience of a wide-range of businesses, both from an audit and tax perspective, which has put her in good stead for her current role. It was whilst she was an Audit Manager that she decided to expand her tax knowledge and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor.
