Orange Mulled Wine
If you like the element of surprise,
why not zest things up with a citrus twist to the basic Mulled Wine?
1.5l full—bodied red wine
1 medium orange studded with cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
6 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
Freshly grated nutmeg
95g soft brown sugar
Place the wine and water in a large saucepan. Add the orange, lemon rind, spices
and sugar and heat gently until almost boiling. Turn down to the lowest possible
heat, the surface should barely tremble. Simmer for half an hour to allow the spices
to infuse thoroughly. Add the orange liqueur or brandy then reheat gently. Strain into
a large, warmed bowl and float a few thin slices of orange on top. Serve in a glass
tumbler along with a warm mince pie.
This one is sure to warm you up on the coldest of winter days. As Victoria Moore
once said, “The vitamin C for health, the honey to soothe, the alcohol to numb.”
50ml Jack Daniel’s Whisky Old No7
1 teaspoon honey
50ml boiling water
3 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 slice lemon
1 pinch ground nutmeg
Add all ingredients to a brandy snifter and light with a match. Stir until flame goes
out and serve immediately in a latte glass.
Flame of Love
Claimed to be Frank Sinatra’s favourite drink, the Flame of Love is enough to heat
up any special moment this Christmas.
1 orange twist
Made in the same way as a martini. Stir in large iced mixing glass. Strain and serve
with an orange twist into a Martini glass.

a festive kick!
